The Next Generation Venture Fund places an emphasis on long-term guidance for high-achieving middle and high school students. The mentorship and personalized academic programs NGVF offers are targeted to qualified underrepresented students who, day in and day out, confront challenges others find difficult to overcome.
National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), a prominent mentor organization, is well aware of the challenges these gifted students face. For almost 20 years, NFTE has created innovative, award-winning programs to teach young people from low-income communities how to “transform street smarts into business smarts.” When allowed to thrive in an environment such as the NFTE summer BizCamp offered to NGVF scholars, students’ entrepreneurial ideas can lead them to think more creatively about their academics and personal and professional goals.
The NGVF academic advisors who oversee each scholar’s Personalized Academic & Extracurricular Plan are also concerned with the long run. The personalized plan they develop serves as an academic road map to guide students through their NGVF experience. Each student receives a plan that students and advisors develop together, based on student need and an advisor’s expert guidance. Advisors also coordinate the Parent Training Workshop, a one-day conference developed to enhance the at-home support students with high academic abilities require.
Why such involvement?
Because one-on-one service—the service NGVF offers—can ensure a bright student has what they need to meet their academic and career goals. NGVF can provide the mentoring that helps scholars bridge the gap between where they are, and where they want to be.
